Enjoyed the video, I don’t have Lightroom but use Snapseed mainly because of the ease….. anyway I tend to to take shots. Send them to my phone, then to my tablet…… the next thing is I delete the photos from my camera. And about every third time I do this I format the camera again…… I know this is NOT best way to go about things, but it works for me ! My concern is am I doing any damage to the card and or camera….. think I’m too old to learn Lightroom it just seems to confusing. Thank you again for your information,I’ll try to get some order into my photos with some of your ideas. Regards .

Thank you for this video! This lens is definitely a waste of money for bird photography in my opinion, because 99% of the time you are going to be shooting at 300mm. You can now buy a ef 500mm f4 for about $7000 used which is a much more useful lens.

Hello Duade Thank you so much for your informative videos I really do enjoy them and I learn from them. I did an upgrade from the Canon 80d with 100 to 400 Mark 1 to the R7 with the RF 100 to 400 my main reason for upgrading is the weight difference and also the eye tracking of the R7 of which the Canon 80d does not have. I also have the R10 which I upgraded from my Canon 550D. The only problem that I have with the R7 is that some of my photos do come out soft and are not Sharp. I have no regrets about my upgrades. RUclipsrs make it sound like you are completely unable to use an R7 and a Sigma 150-600 . Because the electronic shutter is supposedly slow and the mechanical shutter causes a blurred image. Therefore you have to buy the R5ii which does not yet exist, and a RF 600 F4 L. The truth is almost none of the photogs out there are able to really match the capabilities of the equipment they use. But for most it is a hobby. Buy what you are willing to pay for and enjoy it. You don’t need to justify it, because it is a hobby you do for enjoyment. Amd you can also have fun with budget equipment. Even with an R7 - like I do

There are wetlands near my home that my current camera and lens just can't capture. I.e., the egrets and cranes are nesting there, but they are too far away for my EF 75-300 mm lens*. It's absolutely driving me crazy. I think I'm going to rent the RF 800 mm, but I'm also going on a vacation to the Catskills next month, and stopping at Niagara Falls on the way. I got my "beginner" camera for Christmas (eos r100), but I'm already wanting something with a faster fps. I want to get a more powerful lens, but I have NO idea what lens to get. I found an RF 800 mm f11 for $650. But should I get the RF 100-400 mm instead? I want to be able to get those far away shots, but sometimes there's the perfect bird with the perfect shot 10 feet away...like my last photo session. I pulled in to my home, parked, looked to my left, and 10 feet away was a redheaded woodpecker, perfect morning light hitting it... *so far away that I didn't even see the cranes until I looked at the pictures afterwards, magnified the shots, and there they were.

Hey Duade! Since it’s clear from all your vids that you are a super fan of the EF 400 f/5.6, I decided to buy one last week. It’s pretty clear to me now why you love it, it’s absolutely sharp as a knife. I wonder one thing though, do you experience issues with using filters on it? I did some test shot with my usual KF concept filter, but i was unpleasantly surprised by its results.. I wonder what your experience is on the matter, and which filters do work with it. Keep up the good work and kind regards.

Hi Duade - Have been loving your videos! And, I love using the FV mode since I first bought the R6...and now the R5. Question - I can't figure out why I don't have the ability to select exposure compensation within the viewfinder when in FV mode on the R5. When I use the wheel to switch from Shutter to Aperture...it just skips right over the exposure comp to ISO. The only way I keep it from skipping exposure comp is if ISO is on "auto". If ISO is on anything but "auto", it skips exposure comp. Any idea what setting is keeping me from being able to select it? I'm pulling my hair out trying to figure this out. Thx!

Before you go out and buy the latest gear, do a google search for photo competitions from 10 or 15 years ago. You will see a ton of amazing pictures taken with equipment that's now considered "obsolete". I finally upgraded from DSLR to mirrorless, and it has made a difference, especially in being able to shoot in low light, but some of my favorite images are still from the old DSLR. I love the advice of spending money on trips rather than equipment. I'm always tempted to move from an R7 to an R5, but I could do an international trip on the price difference.

Yes I had the same issue with my 200-400 and 2x and had to stop down to at least f10 for better image quality. But recently I test the Canon RF 400mm f2.8 with 2x TC shot wide open at f5.6 in the store and R7 and the images were stunning at high ISO’s of 8000-12800 not seeing much of any noise! This shows how much lens sharpness has on showing less noise because of less refractive light coming through the lens and made me actually buy the lens among many other reasons . Maybe you can test this out in a video because it’s making me now wanting to keep my R7 😊

As a wildlife photographer I am quite often confronted with low light, especially in the early morning and late evening. For photographing mammals, like badgers, foxes and deer it could be very useful. Especially next to my 500 mm F4 type II. It is indeed expensive, but could proof to be valuable. I have decided to wait for further Canon developments like the rumored converter and the 200-500 MM f4.

Yet another brilliant video, Duade! I'm learning so much. This has come at a good time for me as I research my next camera. Upgrading from the EOS 700D. As suggested by you, I was looking at the 90D but am now considering the R7 as I can still use that with my Sigma 150-600mm lens (just finished watching your video on best settings to reduce pulsing...). In no rush as I certainly have skills to improve on. I struggle with the AF on my current gear as well as limited ability to take bursts of shots. AI is a tool no different from auto focus or object follow. The purpose remains the same: help take great pictures. As for "AI generated imagery" I think this is catering specifically to the vlogging market and not directed at any work between photographer and subject at all. For those that doubt this just add a watermark or time and date stamp...something both of which now becomes vastly superior with an AI imaging system. I think where this will have an impact is on price meaning quite suddenly all those tens of thousands in US Dollar money spent on buying "gear" suddenly is seen as not necessary...for now...and yes of course this will upset more than few...not much more than a few but yes, more than a few. The bottom line is cameras today are so insanely complex and feature rich this does require an AI assistant in order to "query" the photographer what be the options available for a shoot as opposed to how things work going on forever now with various "modes." Also there is "generative AI" which is not at all about generating fake images made to look real but looking through your "glass plate as a view finder" thingy and realizing there are so many pictures you did not even know were "there"(by seeing things the naked eye cannot) will be hard to put the camera down actually. Add real time audio cues and off the wall animation and who knows what else and this ... already is actually...a huge enhancement both to creativity and productivity.

Hi Duade. It’s Mick Thompson again from Seattle, Washington. Your advice on this video is absolutely spot on. I want to share my experience with you and, at the end, make a suggestion. I’ve been doing bird photography since 1986 and was so happy to start using digital cameras in 2008. Here’s my progression. Canon 7D with Canon’s 300mm. Then the 7D Mark II with the Canon 500mm. Then up to the Canon 5D. Then the Canon 1DX Mark II with the Canon 600mm. I then traded all that in for the Olympus OM-D E-M1X with the Olympus 300 f/4 (the lens in your video). Then I upgraded to the OM-1. Then the absolute highlight of my bird photography career, I got the Olympus 150-400m with the built in 1.25 extender. Finally, last March, I bought the OM-1 Mark II. I have advanced my photography to the point where I am now a judge for the National Audubon Society’s annual photo contest. I feel very confident in saying that the best setup currently available for bird photography is the OM-1 Mark II with the OM 150-400mm. I hope you get a chance to try this yourself.

Great information. I read, look at reviews, watch RUclips! I have the 100-500 rf-someone gave it a good review (thank you). I'm trying to decide on the R6 ii or the R5, both are great. I'm moving from the R6 and now thinking about a trip instead.

Too many choices lol. I would go with the R5 for stills based shooting. R62 better for video/stills. Cheers, Duade 👍

Nice video. I currently have 2 R5's along with multiple Canon lenses. At this point, the only reason I would upgrade to a R5II would be how well pre capture works if it's included. I agree with your comment and the end to maybe save your money on upgrades and do more travel. That's what I've been doing the last few years. On a side note, I ordered the Canon 200-800 in late December and I'm still waiting on it.

Rather than waiting potentially a full year to buy the newer version of the R7, I would consider buying the current model, either used or refurbished.

Hey Duade, thanks for another great review. After watching your video on the canon ef 100-400 mk2 with the 2x extender mk3, i went ahead and got the extender. I have got some decent shots with it. Then the 200-800 appears. My question is, now you have experience with both setups which is best for iq and focus speed. My body is the R5. Many thanks.
